Post Operative Instructions Breast Augmentation 1. May shower after 48 hours. Avoid soaking wound in tub for one week or until sutures are removed. 2. If a steri-strip was placed over your wound, leave steri-strip on until you return to see the doctor. Avoid getting it wet. If it falls off, call the doctor's office or replace with one provided. 3. You do not need a special post-operative surgical bra. Unless we tell you otherwise, you can go without a bra for the first two to three weeks. 4. Expect swelling, fullness, tightness and soreness of the breasts in the first several days after surgery. This will gradually subside over the next six to eight weeks. 5. Most patients require narcotics for pain control for the first several days. After the first week, you should be able to get adequate pain relief from extra strength Tylenol. Avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, etc.), or any aspirin-like compound for three weeks after surgery. If you are not sure about a particular medicine, ask your pharmacist or call us. 6. Frequently one breast is a little more swollen, sore or bruised than the other. This is normal . If one breast is dramatically more swollen, sore or bruised, call the office so we can arrange to see you. 7. You may have swelling over your lower ribs or on the side of your chest (or upper abdomen) below the level of your breasts. This is not unusual and is due to some residual fluid that we use to wash out the space in which we place the implant. It will go away in two or three days. 8. Patients occasionally report a "sloshing" sound with movement of their breasts or their torso in the first week or two after surgery. This is due to a temporary build-up of serous body fluid around your implant. Do not be alarmed. This will subside in two to three weeks. 9. Avoid strenuous physical activity for three weeks. This includes any aerobic activity working out, jogging, vigorous walking, riding a bike, riding a horse, etc. Avoid any activity that will bounce your breasts up and down (climbing stairs, etc.) 10. After sutures are removed massage wound twice a day with Vitamin E oil to help scar soften & fade. 11. Avoid direct sunlight on healing wound. If you go to a tanning bed, wear tape or a bandaid over your incision. |
